Synopsis

Could one chance meeting change your life forever?

Zara is at a crossroads in life. While she adores her job as a producer’s assistant working on hit TV shows, travelling around the country means she doesn’t truly feel that she has a home. With a fractured relationship with her family and unrequited love weighing heavily on her heart, she is torn about what her next step in life should be…

Snowy is hiding from the world. He’s devoted his life to home schooling his young son and caring for sick owls at his home, Owl’s Lodge, deep in the Yorkshire Wolds countryside. While he’s passionate about both, it’s a lonely existence and he’s starting to question his decisions. But how do you step back into a world you’ve pushed away for years…?

When Zara brings an injured owl to Owl’s Lodge, its frosty, reclusive owner is far from welcoming. Despite hostilities, there’s a connection that neither could ever have prepared themselves for. As they discover a shared passion, a new friendship blossoms, but both Zara and Snowy are used to shutting people out.

Can they both find the courage to open up and the strength to move on from their pasts? And what could this mean for their future happiness?

My Review

It’s my stop on the blog tour for ‘A New Dawn at Owl’s Lodge’ Thank you to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the opportunity to take part.

This story focuses on Zara, who’s a production’s assistant for her best friend Amber. We met Amber in the first Bumblebee Barn book. Snowy is mostly hiding at home but he also rescues owls and rehabilitates them. So what happens when Zara takes a poorly owl to Snowy to help?

Wow, I absolutely loved being back at Bumblebee Barn and briefly back at Hedgehog Hollow too. This book was wonderful. I really loved getting to know Zara and Snowy as the story is told by both of their perspectives.

I really enjoyed learning a lot about the different types of owls in this country. Jessica’s books are always very well researched and that just shines through I always learn something new and I love that.

Jessica takes you on a journey that allows you to totally escape into her beautiful setting and wonderful characters. On the subject of characters I also loved Snowy’s son he was so funny.

At the same time as being light, Jessica touch’s on some tough subjects but she does this with such a great amount of sensitivity. ‘A New Dawn at Owl’s Lodge’ is a story full of loss, grief but also love and friendship. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I can’t wait to see what Jessica writes next 🥰

Author Bio

I live in Scarborough on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast in the UK. My home inspired the creation of the fictional seaside town of Whitsborough Bay where I set some of my books. The Hedgehog Hollow series and Bumblebee Barn take readers to a gorgeous countryside setting on the Yorkshire Wolds. There’s more to come from the Bumblebee Barn world, giving further glimpses into what’s happening at Hedgehog Hollow. In July 2023, I added the lakes and mountains to my settings with the start of my ‘Escape to the Lakes’ series. I absolutely love this part of the country and am delighted to be setting a new series in my happy place.

I live with my husband, our teenage daughter and sprocker spaniel, Ella. I’m a stationery addict with a notepad obsession who loves chocolate (although it doesn’t love me), hedgehogs, 80s music, collectible teddy bears and lighthouses.

My career has mainly been in HR as a trainer and recruiter. I had a brief detour into retail to set up and manage my own specialist teddy bear shop and started writing my debut novel on quiet days in the shop.

In June 2020, I became a full-time author. I’m so very grateful to anyone who has bought or borrowed my books in whatever format, helping me fulfil a long-held dream of writing full-time. I still can’t believe I get to spend every day chatting to my fictional friends and making stuff up.

  1. Thanks so much for joining in the blog tour for A New Dawn at Owl’s Lodge, Kirsty. Apologies for the delay in reading this – I’ve had a holiday sandwiched by two editing deadlines so I’m only just catching up.

Delighted you loved Snowy and Zara’s story and that you enjoyed Harrison too – I loved creating him and Pops. Really appreciate your kind comments. One more to come from Bumblebee Barn in January next year but another Lakes one in between!
