Candice Summerville is invisible. No one seems to notice her – not really. Heck, she often doesn’t notice herself, except for her monthly scrutiny in the mirror to check on her body’s steady slide towards middle age.
But when her ancient, practical estate car is consigned to the scrap heap, Candice falls in love with a cute, purple convertible, and from that moment on her life begins to take on a whole new meaning. Strangers wave at her and people stop to talk, and suddenly she isn’t invisible any longer.
Life seems to be looking up, especially when she meets silver fox and handy-man, Paul. There’s just one fly in the ointment, one thing she that has her second-guessing herself.
Is it the car that Paul sees – or is it her?
Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for ‘The Summer of Going Topless’ Thank you as ever to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the invite to take part.
Once I read the synopsis of this book I just knew I was going to enjoy it. This is definitely not the first book I am going to read by Liz.
The story mainly focuses on forty something year old Candice Summerville, in the beginning she is definitely stuck in a bit of a rut working in a library in IT, she has been long divorced and her two sons Ivan and Preston have long since left home. She also feels invisible, even to herself sometimes.
A breakdown of her car leads Candice to purchasing a purple convertible sports car, little does she know how much this car is going to change her life. I was completely and utterly invested in Candice’s life. I wanted her to be living the best live she could. I won’t go into specifics on how she changes her life but you should definitely find out for yourself. I also loved Paul’s character, he’s such a charming gentleman. Liz intertwines some unexpected events to keep you on your toes!!
Liz has such a charming writing style that’s warm and witty. It is such an easy going read that I just flew through! 🙂 ‘The Summer of Going Topless’ is about slowly discovering yourself again and living life to the full ❤ I give this beautiful read 4*/5*!
Thank you to Liz and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
Where to buy!
Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.
She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.
She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.
